Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination can be performed with either your male partner's sperm. In the following sections, we will discuss both of these options. Contact our office with any questions or concerns.

Artificial Insemination with Husband's Sperm (AIH)

Artificial insemination using husband's sperm is useful for couples whose infertility is caused by cervical factor, when the sperm needs to be concentrated because of high semen volume, or if there is a disturbance in the ejaculation process. AIH can also treat some couples whose infertility is caused by low sperm counts.

Appointments for AIH are usually scheduled once a month at the estimated time of ovulation. This is determined by using ovulation predictor kits. The husband will provide a semen sample by masturbating into a sterile container. The semen will be buffered and washed. The concentrated sperm sample will then be placed into the woman's uterus using a small catheter. In rare cases, mild cramping or spotting may occur as a result of the procedure. Most pregnancies occur quickly with most in the first 3 months of treatment.

Affordable IVF Centers will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure itself or your chances of success.
